Under the auspices of the Community Health Improvement Coalition, the Val Verde-Kinney Cancer Task Force's purpose is to reduce the burden of cancer on the residents of Val Verde and Kinney counties.
The Task Force will create and expand cooperative efforts that maximize available cancer resources.
The Task Force will use the Texas Cancer Plan and its goals of cancer prevention, early detection and treatment, professional training, cancer data, and planning, and survivorship to promote its mission.
The Val Verde-Kinney Cancer Task Force was founded on Oct. 24, 2005. Since that time, the VVKCTF has met monthly to work on the goals for the Texas Cancer Plan.
Val Verde-Kinney Cancer Task Force were presented with a Cancer Alliance of Texas (CAT) Certificate of Recognition "for your hard work, enthusiasm, and commitment in Comprehensive Cancer Control" on August 12, 2010.
VVKCTF members Christina Nass-Spivey, Dotty Vogt, Willie Braudaway, Linda Jimenze, Pat Sitzes with CAT chair Armin D. Weinberg, Ph.D. Along with Department of State Health Services staff members Stephanie Uecker, Nicolas Lopez, Lynda Taylor, and Juanita Salinas who served as mentors to the VVKCTF attended the presentation. Unable to attend for the presentation was Grisel Sanchez.
